This book was written nearly 60 years ago and it’s a bit dated, but it’s readable and gives the reader a good view of human’s transition from hunter/gather egalitarian societies to mass agricultural hierarchical state societies.

This book details the birth of the Catholic Church as an arm of state power and its war on Judaism, Pagans, and Islamist.

A well written compendium of this amazing and bloody history

 

STAMPED FROM THE BEGINNING - Ibram X. Kendi - 2017 - Hachette Book Group  

The first several chapters are an excellent history of the beginning of modern racism born out of the original Doctrine of Discovery Papal Bulls.

 

MAYFLOWER - Nathaniel Philbrick - 2007 - Penguin Books  

The well told myth breaking story of the founding encounter of a group of Christian fanatics and the Wampanoags.

 

AN INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES (REVISIONING HISTORY) - Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz - 2015 - Beacon Press

An excellent view of the non-whitewashed history of this land. 

 

PAGANS IN THE PROMISED LAND: DECODING THE DOCTRINE OF DISCOVERY - Steven Newcomb - 2008 - Fulcrum Publishing

This book is a good discussion of the history and importance of the Doctrine of Discovery. It also discusses the importance of language in the process of this history.

CASTE - Isabel Wilkerson - 2020 - Random House  

This book illuminates the caste system in America by comparing it to Indian (the country), and Nazi caste systems. A wonderful read. 

 

THE NATIONS WITHIN - Vine Deloria Jr. / Clifford Lytle - 1984 - Pantheon Books  

A great look at the legal machinations surrounding treaties and sovereignty vis a vis the Native Nations and the US Settler State.
